Evan Breaks the Rules
“Nobody listens to me.”
Dessert before dinner. Legos on the floor. An argument at the top of the stairs that ends with a boy deciding the rules do not apply to him.
Solving the impossibilities of tomorrow—yesterday!
Where impossible ideas become tomorrow’s possibilities—and young dreamers learn how to lead.
How it starts
But when a dream transports him to the future, Evan discovers that running a company—and becoming a leader—is much harder than telling everyone what to do.
The bedroom. Legos on the floor, dessert unfinished, and one very annoyed seven-year-old.
The journey
One is anger and the need to prove himself. The other is confidence, collaboration, and belief in what he can build with other people.
“Nobody listens to me.”
Dessert before dinner. Legos on the floor. An argument at the top of the stairs that ends with a boy deciding the rules do not apply to him.
“I'll show them.”
He gets a whole company and runs it by giving orders. The rockets go sideways, the marshmallows escape, and six million inflatable llamas arrive by lunchtime.
“You will see.”
He starts again. This time he asks questions, waits for the whole answer, writes things down, and makes decisions with the people who know the most.
The lesson
Bosses bark.Leaders listen.
Real leadership begins when we slow down, ask questions, and make space for other people’s knowledge and ideas.
The family code, on both palms. 444.
